Just wondering around the speedy highways of the famous Internet, I stumbled upon some unique things to share.

Coordinate tools
Simple enough to use, just enter the location of a block, chunk or region file and it'll tell you all you need to know about it. if you need to do a little mathings to figure out where exactly a block is, or, more likely, which file a block is in so you can delete the giant mess you just made.

Panoramic View Tutorial

Note: This post is nothing about the Movie Paranormal Activity or about the Paranormal nor about Paranormal Phenomena.

To understand Panoramic it is best you read about it on the wiki Linkylinklink,
"An image showing a field of view approximating, or greater than, that of the human eye – about 160° by 75° – may be termed panoramic. This generally means it has an aspect ratio of 2:1 or larger, the image being at least twice as wide as it is high. The resulting images take the form of a wide strip. Some panoramic images have aspect ratios of 4:1 and sometimes 10:1, covering fields of view of up to 360 degrees. Both the aspect ratio and coverage of field are important factors in defining a true panoramic image."

A panorama can be defined as a wide-angled view of any space, field or structure.  A panorama is usually made from several photographs/screenshots that are merged together to create a picture/image.

Robin's The Great Hall (Inside Panoramic View)

Follow the steps below to create an panoramic image of any structure in Minecraft.
  • Set the screen resolution. It is best to set your Monitor/LCD screen resolution to as high as you can, to get the best quality screenshots for your panoramic view.
  • Set Minecraft to fullscreen mode. press F11 to toggle fullscreen mode. you can use ALT+TAB to switch out of Minecraft AND switch it back to windowed mode.
  • Stand still and mark where you will be standing. mark with any block type. it is best to place another block directly behind you so that you can't move back.
  • Start from the extreme left side of what you want to capture. move and adjust your view by moving the crosshair with the mouse only, keep the crosshair at an specific height.
  • Take a few screenshots by pressing F2. Press F1 to toggle the Heads Up Display (hide the crosshair, inventory etc.), check the screenshots if you are satisfied with it then move on. if not goto step one. The screenshots are saved in
    o   %appdata%\.minecraft\screenshots on Windows
    o   ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/screenshots in OS X
    o   ~/.minecraft/screenshots in Linux.
  • Choose a reference point, move the crosshair from left to right. Press F1 to toggle the crosshair, Choose a reference point a tree or a specific block the reference point should be in the previous screenshot, Move the crosshair from left to right keeping atleast 20% to 30% of the view that you have already taken a screenshot of, we need the images to overlap, do not move your cursor in the vertical (i.e. up or down) direction. If you don’t overlap enough, as Adobe Photoshop’s Photomerge tries to blend and merge the shots it wont be able to blend them well, resulting in a messy image. take a few screenshots.
  • Follow the above step as many times as you'll need to capture the whole structure.
Alien's Temple (Inside Panoramic View)

Now merge all the screenshots together using Adobe Photoshop.
  • Open all the screenshots that you wish to add to your Panorama in Photoshop.
  • In Photoshop go to File > Automate > Photomerge
  • In the dialog that appears choose Auto and then click the “Add Open Files” button
  • Check the filename numbers of the photos that are added, The images in the list should be in correct order, meaning the extreme left screenshot or our first screenshot should be listed on top then the next screenshot you took and so on, till the extreme right or final screenshot at the bottom of the list.
  • Click Ok to start the photomerge process. if you followed the steps correctly you should have a panoromic view of your structure by now.
  • Crop and adjust as you need and save it.

Cool Links and Software

Minecraft building isn't easy you need to plan it before you can actually start building it, specially if you are going to build spheres or arches, it is not as easy as just grab the materials and start making a sphere you will require blueprints for it, same goes with if you wish to replicate a real life build in Minecraft.

Following are two great additions to our cool software list that we use from time to time.

http://www.plotz.co.uk/
http://www.plotz.co.uk/plotz.php

If you'd like to build sphere, ellipse, lighthouse, observatory, or wizardtower then Plotz is what you need. It is online so no need to download or install it, just goto the website and get started.

This is an amazing "free" software to scan any real life object, just follow the instructions and very soon you'll have a 3D Model of the object you scanned you can then use binvox to convert it into 3D voxelized model you can then use that blueprint to build your real life object in Minecraft.

And there we are!

Yes, it seems like things are working nicely.
The server have been updated to the latest recommended build (#1240) witch means MC 1.8.1 support finally.

With this update we have changed a few things, the most important change is the new permission system, although few of you will notice this too much.

Besides that, all plugins are updated to the newest versions, where this was impossible I found something else to replace it with.
The new plugin list looks like this:
  • ChestShop
  • CommandBook
  • FalseBook
  • iConomy
  • Jail
  • Log
  • LWC
  • MineBackup
  • MinecartMania
  • MyHome
  • MyWarp
  • PermissionsEX
  • QuickSign
  • VirtualShop
  • WorldEdit
  • WorldGuard
  • XSigns
The main changes here is the removal of command costs, the global shop have been replaced by an global command based community shop where everyone can sell and buy things from each other with commands.
For the rare items we will instead set up a few chest shops around the spawn area to replace the functionallity of the old global shop.
The plugins CommandSigns and ColorSigns were removed, I don't think many of you ever used them or even knew we had them available. instead we got QuickSign now that allows you to edit signs and add some color to them for extended fanciness.
Thats the most important things to know so far. for the mods there is a few new things with promotion and such, and we don't have a help system to guide people. I apologize for that.
Ill look into getting a different help plugin later.

OK, everything should be transferred; homes, warps, protected areas, money and such. let me know if there is a mistake made here.
There is a new map render torrent too, please look in the downloads area and check it out, it was a complete failure last time and I can only hope its working better now.

Time for changes?

Hello everyone.

Just to fill the blog with some mildly useful information, I can tell you that the process of updating the server to 1.8.1 have started now again. This is now the second time I start updating the server to 1.8.1 and I can only hope its going better this time.

This turned out to be alot more work than what we had with previous updates, as many of our plugins have died out and has to be replaced with something new and similar, or removed completely in some cases.

From what I can see so far, this is going great. Many things work nicely already, so it doesn't have to be that long until you all see a server update, I guess we are something like 30% completed with everything by now and I started this evening.

Also a little note here at the end, although most updates with the 1.8 seems nice enough, I really don't think the void fog area around the bottom of the map was a very thoughtful change to the game as it practically ruins everything built below block 20 or something like that. Sadly I cant do anything about that and we will have to either live with it or modify our clients (witch I know I will).

Thank you very much for your kind support, we love you all. -serverteam.
