This was an ordinary day with the usual online chat on Xfire with my good old friend Robin (I’ve known him for years now just online mainly due to our common interest in F.E.A.R. the game. We had a clan for that game called OverClocking), this was 19th September 2010 as registered in the Xfire chat log when Robin first tried to sell me to play Minecraft (and believe me he is a good seller). And my first response to him (after watching a few videos of it on YouTube) was “this game looks old” and Robin complained about how his social life got destroyed due to playing too much Minecraft, and the chat continued in some other direction and finally ended. A few days after Robin tries to sell it again (he was damn persistent at it), after sharing a link on YouTube for Minecraft my response was again “still not liking it” and again Robin continues with some negative/positive mix comment about Minecraft by typing “ok, the game seems dull, I agree. In mp mode however there is the social element added to it all, it’s actually a great game. Even though it’s far from finished” he was willing to donate one copy of the game to me just to support the creator of Minecraft. And after a month or so he tries to give me Minecraft again because I had enough of playing F.E.A.R. by the end of December 2010 I finally downloaded Minecraft after rejecting Robin a dozen times or so. He finally made me play Minecraft.
So I start playing some Minecraft, Robin gave me a starter video link for it and I was unable to understand the concept behind it and Robin goes by typing “the goal, which depends on the person. My goal is to create large structures. I like architecture so that’s my thing, kind of. There is item collection, a little boring perhaps, or exploring. The main thing is building though there is more advanced things to do as well if you are interested. Like a simple computer, in game”. Robin was still trying to sell it to me and after a few comments from me like “your game is cheap (just making an conversation here, don't take it seriously) u are not selling it the right way, I mean I’m not interested in joining and playing it again”, and “sell sell sell” Robin types “I’m not going to force this on to you more than I already have. If you don’t want to, that’s alright”. I did play it a few times and was a bit amused by it.
It was finally when the year 2011 started so did the madness, And after just a week or so I was very much addicted to Minecraft and I still am it took a lot of poking and pinching but Robin finally got me into Minecraft. This is the start for me and I don’t see the end any where near.
